LOCH Lomond Hockey Club’s first team ended their season on a high note with a 9-0 win over East Kilbride on Saturday.

Despite two defenders having to call off through illness, and losing Molly Macken with a shoulder injury just before half time, the Loch Lomond team still put on a fine display, with the players who stepped up from the club’s second XI all impressing at the higher level.

Loch Lomond were 3-0 up by half time and trebled that tally in the second half, thanks to three goals from Rosie McColgan, two each from Zuby Kofi and Megan Glover and one each from Rebecca Lightfoot and Molly Macken.

Tara Jackson and Charlotte Chambers had some good assists from midfield and great efforts by Jackson and Lauren McCreadie complemented silky play by McColgan and Lightfoot to produce a convincing win.

The back four of McCreadie, Anna Currie, Eve Howard and Kirsty Richardson had some good steals and offensive play and stood firm when needing to defend along with Heather Smith in goal.

The second half produced much more offensive play as a result of better and quicker passing. There were some great and creative passes out there which was a joy to watch.

It was a great finish to the season. Now all that’s left is for Loch Lomond seconds to play Rottenrow at the end of April and then it will be a well-deserved rest over the summer.

This season has seen both squads amalgamate more than in previous seasons owing to non-availablity and injury.

This has, however, been a very positive thing, giving more players a chance to step up to the first team and to play in a different formation.

Player of the match was Rosie McColgan, and runners up were Rebecca Lightfoot and Zuby Kofi, who was also opposition player of the match.

Thanks once again to umpire John Friel.
