ARDENCAPLE FC’s 2003s narrowly defeated Oban Saints 2-1 and drew with Dumbarton Riverside 1-1 in the club’s 50th anniversary tournament section.

Playing Oban for the first time in two years, Ardencaple started the brighter of the two sides, and though Oban were always a threat up front, the first half ended goalless.

Oban’s centre-forward gave his team the lead early in the second half with a powerful shot past Cameron, but Caple soon responded and a perfectly weighted free kick by Andrews saw Hanson’s cushioned header float away from the keeper to nestle in the net at the far post.

Boosted by the leveller, Ardencaple threw men forward and it paid off as a bullet header from Hanson from a corner gave Caple the lead. it was that man Hanson again with a bullet header from a corner which gave Caple the lead.

Oban then lifted their game and pushed Caple back and had keeper Cameron to thank for two point blank saves to keep Oban out and his side in line for victory a narrow 2-1 win.

The game with Dumbarton, however, was a tough tackling match from both teams, with no quarter given.but Ardencaple took the lead when a long throw by Milton saw Evans climb above the visiting keeper to head home.

On top after the goal, Caple were doing well in midfield and almost increased their lead when Milton’s free kick rebounded off the foot of the post.

A lack of concentration, however, saw a harmless looking through ball slip through to the Riverside left winger, who levelled the game with a deft finish.

Riverside finished the game the stronger, but keeper Cameron once again came to Caple’s rescue with a super double save when the visitors had broken clear. Ardencaple had keeper Cameron to thank for a superb double save when Riverside had broken clear.
