ARDENCAPLE FC’s 2005 team cruised through to the age group final of the Michael McGinley Memorial Shield with a crushing 8-0 victory away to Kilbowie.

Following two narrow defeats in the teams’ league meetings, Caple knew a good performance would be required to turn the tables on their Clydebank opponents.

And the Helensburgh team got off to a dream start when Murray’s through ball saw Boud round the keeper before slotting home the opening goal.

Boud’s good start to the game continued when, in only the fifth minute, his long-range effort flew high past the Kilbowie keeper.

It wasn’t all one-way traffic in the first half: Ardencaple did have defending to do, but they looked solid at the back, where Sharp was marshalling the defence well.

At the other end a fine finish by Shields made it three, and right on the half-time whistle, Boud completed his hat-trick to give Caple a 4-0 lead at the break and put the team well on the way to a place in the final.

Kilbowie rallied early in the second half, and keeper Crossan turned two shots round the post, before the on-fire Boud scored his fourth and Caple’s fifth of the day with the visitors’ first attack of the second half.

That knocked the stuffing out of Kilbowie, and Caple continued to push forward, with a Grant rocket making it six before Boud added another to round off an excellent performance.

The Caple 2005 team are now looking forward to the final of the tournament, which will be played at Millburn Park this Saturday at 3pm.

Supporters are encouraged to head to Millburn to support Caple’s 2004 team at 1pm, followed by the 2005 team two hours later.
