ARDENCAPLE FC’s 2003s eased to a comfortable 5-1 win over Broomhill in the semi-final of the Spring Cup at Scotstoun Showground.

A fine footballing display saw all the Caple players play their part, with the midfield controlling the game with neat passing and movement and continually opening up the Broomhill defence.

It was no surprise to see Caple open the scoring after 15 minutes, when a fine, flowing move saw Milton create space for himself at the edge of the Broomhill box, and his left-footed drive flew past the home goalkeeper.

The only surprise was how long it took Ardencaple to net a second, but it came after 30 minutes when Milton beat the offside trap and drew the keeper before squaring for Evans to knock the ball into the empty net.

Broomhill had a long-range effort on goal, but Cameron caught the ball with ease, before a defence-splitting pass from Cole released Mullender, whose powerful shot couldn’t be held by the Broomhill keeper, enabling Newton to knock home Ardencaple’s third right on the half-time whistle.

Broomhill upped their game at the start of the second half, pinning back Caple’s defence, but the Helensburgh side’s opponents were denied when Mullender headed the ball off the line.

And Broomhill’s hopes of a comeback were effectively ended when a fine six-man move ended with Newton stroking the ball home from close range to make it 4-0.

It was no surprise when Evans nipped between the goalkeeper and centre-half to poke home number five, though Broomhill managed a late consolation goal with a good finish from close range.

Coach Rik Murray said: “We have been in fine form recently and hope we can finish the season off by winning the Spring Cup this Sunday. Winning a trophy in the Glasgow League isn’t an easy task.”

Ardencaple are looking for players in all age groups to add to their squads for next season. Any interested players should contact club secretary Euan Birss on 0795 442 0778.
