Craighelen’s men’s and ladies’ over 60s teams both played Milngavie in their final matches of the season.

For the ladies, Louise Robertson and Barbara McCall played a match which swung first one way and then the other. Down in the first set, the Craighelen pair fought back well to win 7-6, but the Milngavie pair won the second 6-1, and after a final set full of long rallies the home pair proved the more determined and won it 6-4.

Lesley McGowan and Fiona Macpherson played steadily to win 6-1, 6-0, 6-2.

But the men’s team of John Middleton and Russell Graves and Arthur Connolly and David Smith found the going tough against some strong players and lost all their sets.

The Craighelen ladies’ first team lost 7-2 to Strathgryffe 4. Susan Bell and Sue Black did well to win a tight match 7-5, 2-6, 7-5, but Jackie Morris and Sandra Juster lost all three sets, though two were close-fought and the Craighelen pair were unlucky to lose both.

Anna Scullion and Sarah Colman were also on the wrong end of three competitive sets, losing 2-6, 5-7,4-6.

In their second match of the week the team lost to David Lloyd Hamilton 3. The only set was won by Susan and Sue , who lost their match 6-3, 3-6, 4-6, while Jackie and Sandra lost 5-7, 2-6, 1-6 and Sarah and Anna were beaten 5-7, 0-6, 6-7.

The ladies’ second team lost 7-2 to Rutherglen 2 in their last fixture of the season. Lesley Reeve and Louise Robertson won 4-6, 7-6, 6-2, but Lesley McGowan and Barbara McCall lost 2-6, 2-6, 3-6, while Fiona Thomson and Fiona Macpherson were unlucky to lose two close sets in their match, going down 2-6, 4-6, 6-7.
