HELENSBURGH swimmer Eve Thompson is looking forward to a strong end to her season after winning a bronze medal at the Scottish National Open Championships.

After finishing seventh in the 100m breaststroke final at the Tollcross International Swimming Centre in Glasgow, breaking her previous West District record in the process, Eve was surprised and delighted to finish third in the 50m breaststroke final.

After posting the seventh-fastest qualifying time, Eve completed the final in a lifetime best time to finish third from an outside lane, again breaking her previous West District record.

Her Scottish Open medal performance followed a fine display in the Scottish national age group championships earlier in the season, in which she took gold in the 100m breaststroke and silver in the 50m breaststroke in the 19 and over age group.

And in May she reached the final of both the 50m and 100m breaststroke events at the Glasgow International Swim Meet, breaking the West District record for both events in the 19-24 age group.

Eve is now looking forward to ending the season by competing in the British Championships in Sheffield in both the 50m and 100m breaststroke events.

Eve’s mum Gill told the Advertiser: “Eve has really enjoyed her third season as part of the high performance swim programme at the University of Stirling and is looking forward to returning for her fourth year after a well earned break.”
