Following recent successes at the National Cross Country Championships and at the Scottish Secondary Schools’ equivalent, the squad again acquitted themselves well against the cream of the country’s young talent, placing fifth in two of the six age-groups and sixth in another whilst the best individual performance came from Michael Miller, claiming a top 10 finish in the under-13 boys race.

Michael’s 10th place came in a field of 68, covering the 2,600 metres loop in a time of eight minutes 56 seconds.

Behind him, Finlay Gray got the better of Bryn Davies on this occasion, finishing 31st in a time of 9:30 with Bryn just six seconds behind and his 40th place taking the scoring team to fifth place.

The largest field of the day, 70, lined up for the under-13 girls race over the same loop. Charlotte Caskie and Jessica Noble pushed each other the whole way and eventually dead-heated for 25th place in 10:06. Charlie Bridges clocked 10:35 for 37th place to give the scoring team sixth position with further backing from Antonia Burns, 60th in 11:45.

The under-15 age-groups ran a total of 4,300 metres with 52 competing in the girls race and 68 in the boys. Melissa Robinson lead the girls team to fifth position, finishing 18th in a time of 17:06. Kara Bruce and Mhairi Cromar packed well behind her, finishing 30th and 35th respectively in 18:10 and 18:24.

Only two Burgh under-15 boys contested their race, Gregor Chambers clocking 16:08 for 38th place and Bruce Cromar 17:16 for 54th.

With a solid winter of training and racing in all weathers behind them the squad look forward to reaping the benefits as they turn their attention to the track season.
