Firstly two of the club’s Juniors were given a chance to compete on the Commonwealth track at Hampden, which was the venue for the Scottish Schools Championships.

In the Group B girls Melissa Robinson finished sixth in the 1,500m final in a personal best time of four minutes, 57.18 seconds, then came back the following day and finished fifth in the 3,000m in a time of 11:02.68.

In the Group D boys’ 1,500m final Michael Miller ran a personal best of 4.47.58, finishing 10th.

Moving off the track and into the mountains, there seniors performed with distinction too.

Three HAAC teams completed the 43-mile Mid Summer Highland Relay race which took place on the West Highland Way on Saturday.

The race was split into three stages, from Tyndrum to Glencoe, Glencoe to Kinlochleven and Kinlochleven to the finish in Fort William.

The Cat’s Whiskers — aka Stevie Bell, Madeline Robinson and Michelle Hetherington were a brilliant seventh — the Helensburgh Chasers of Becky Beale, Laurie Marsden and Colin Douglas 11th and the three Blonds, No Directon line-up of Laura Johnstone, Gail Thomas and Karen Wallace were 19th team overall, however, they were the second all-female team.

Hats off to them all, it’s no mean feat to cover those hard, hilly miles.

The miles were far from flat either on the challenging course presented by the Bannockburn 10k last Sunday.

This proved no barrier to HAAC’s Shirley Dalziel, however, who ran a superb personal best of 51 minutes and 23 seconds for the distance.
