The first race of the day was the under-11 boys which saw three Helensburgh athletes take part. First home for Helensburgh was Alistair McCartney who was up with the leaders throughout the one mile race and finally finished in sixth position in a time of six minutes 55 seconds.

He was followed home by Gregor Blackburn and Finn Bridges who had their own personal battle, with Gregor finishing just a couple of seconds ahead of Finn in 25th and 26th place respectively.

The second race of the day saw the under-11 girls take on the same one mile course as the boys. Amelia Murphy and Amirah Hassan competed for the club in this race and were never very far apart throughout. Amelia finally finished in 18th place in eight minutes 37 seconds, with Amirah just one place and three seconds behind.

In what was a very strong under-13 girls race, Charlie finished the two mile course in 13 minutes 27 seconds which placed her in 15th position, with Katie just six places back in 15 minutes five seconds.

As with the under-13 races, the under-15s also had the male and female athletes running together. In the boy’s race, a fantastic run by Finlay Gray saw him finish just outside the medal places in fourth place, finishing the two mile route in a time of 10 minutes 57 seconds.

In the under-15 girls race Helensburgh had three athletes take on the two mile course.

Jessica Noble took the honour of being the first Helensburgh athlete home, finishing the two miles in 14th place overall in a time of 13 minutes 13 seconds, with Chloe Murphy just two places and 30 seconds behind.

In the women’s race Melissa Robinson ran a strong race from start to finish, competing in the lead pack of athletes for the majority of the three mile course. In the end she was just edged out of the medal positions, finishing fourth.

Further afield the seniors were racing in both California and Torremorlinos.

Gail Thomas and Sybil Kennedy took on 26.2 miles in 30 degrees during the Surf City marathon in California. Gail finished in four hours seven minutes with Sybil right behind her in four hours 11 minutes.

Becky Beale, Colin Douglas, Caroline Johnson and Debbie Savage represented Helensburgh at the Torremorlinos Half Marathon in Spain. There was only one minute to separate Becky and Colin who finished in one hour 38 minutes and one hour 39 minutes respectively.

Caroline, who recently celebrated her 40th with four half marathons claimed a personal best with one hour 55 minutes.

Debbie, ran a very strong race to claim third female and third over 35, to return to Helensburgh laden with silverware.
