Helensburgh AAC athletes recently travelled to Grangemouth to compete in the second match of the Scottish Youth Development League.

Helensburgh AAC athletes recently travelled to Grangemouth to compete in the second match of the Scottish Youth Development League.

The athletes were running on the hallowed Commonwealth Games track, which has been relaid at Grangemouth Athletics Stadium after being removed from Hampden Park.

The under-13 boys were well represented with Alistair McCartney, Finn Bridges, James Niven, Callum Gray, Gregor Blackburn providing good performances across a range of track and field events.

For the under-13 girls Amy Court continued her recent spell of good performances in both sprint and high jump whilst Amelia Murphy made her debut in the 70m hurdles.

Ellie Johnston, Katie Flett and Gemma Phillips completed the team competing in long jump, high jump, javelin, 1200m and 100m relay.

Four under-15 boys turned out with solid performances in 300m, long jump and 300m relay from Ewan Robb, a first place for Amir Sohail Naseem in his 100m, Finlay Gray worked hard against stiff competition to finish fourth in his 800m. Will Wright unfortunately had to pull out from his 800m due to injury.

For the under-15 girls Jessica Noble achieved a personal best in her 800m, with Chloe Murphy also attaining a personal best in her long jump. Jennifer McBride, Georgina Jennings-Maun and Charlie Bridges had a busy day competing in 200m, 300m, 1500m, relays, javelin, discus and long jump.

Alex Burns competed as the only under-17 woman representative gaining a personal best in her 100m sprint, continuing her recent run of good form.

At under-17 Joe Barton completed the team running 1500m and shot putt and long jump field events.
