Hat-trick of clubs open for the year

A FURTHER trio of bowling clubs have opened their greens.

Helensburgh Bowling Club held its green opening on Saturday, with President Amelia McBride having the honour of throwing the first jack and bowls of the year.

Guests on the day included Ernest Johnson (SBA), Jim Dalziel (DBA Secretary) and Willie Lauchlan (GBA President). Gents captain Walter Jamieson presented Amelia with the ceremonial silver jack and a bouquet of flowers.

Members and guests then played a nine-end game which finished: Presidents team 72 shots Past Presidents 41 shots.

The winning rink were: Mac MacKenzie, A Howie, J Irwin and G Sneddon (skip) 11 shots up whilst highest up at six shots for the Past Presidents were: Ian Logan, Robert Mackie, Jim Dalziel and Don Lilley (skip).

Elsewhere, Cardross Bowling Club prepared for a busy season ahead with the green opening for the ladies section on Monday afternoon. President Elaine Park was charged with throwing the silver jack on the day.

And at Garelochhead BC on Saturday afternoon, Jan Halliday did the honours.
