Burgh bowlers' busy beginnings

COMPETITIVE bowling started at Helensburgh Bowling club last week.

The first event was the Mixed Triples competition, won by Marie Mackenzie, Laurence Friel and Don Lilley (skip) who defeated Patricia Robertson, Alan Howie and Mac MacKenzie in the final.

On Sunday, the Ladies played out the Aitchison Trophy, won by the rink of Pat Donald, Liz MacLeod, Rhona Jay and Liz Smith (skip) who held off the challenge of Maureen Pawson, Joy Farrow, Jill Dacombe and Mary Leech (skip) in the final.

At the same time, the gents were playing for the Farquhar Triples.

In the early stages, the triple of Iain H MacLeod, Robin McKerron and Don Lilley (skip) gained the advantage and after two games led with four points to two from the chasing triples of Alan Air, Gordon Stephen and Laurence Friel (skip) as well as the triple of Alan Howie, Try Mc Kerron and Bob Gray (skip).

The Don Lilley team stayed out in front and went on to win the trophy with an unblemished run of five victories in a row.
