Speaking before the draw was made, Farrell said: “Disappointment is the key word. We were really looking forward to a regionalised League Cup section that would have been logistically good for us and give us some really competitive games.

“It is now probably going to become a bit of a nightmare for us. We could end up travelling distances that are just unacceptable for a part-time club.

“I think at times there is a complete ignorance that over half of the clubs in this country are part-time. There is an ignorance from the decision makers to that fact.

“It’s fine as a full-time club if you’re travelling 300 miles in a day in a round trip or having overnight accommodation either the night before or after the game.

“But we don’t have that luxury, both financially and because our players have day jobs to go to.”
