ARDENCAPLE 2003s were crowned DFDL League Cup champions after a comprehensive 4-0 win over Drumchapel Amateurs in the final at Vale of Leven’s Millburn Park.

Ardencaple went into this match in the knowledge that they hadn’t beaten Drumchapel in three previous meetings this season.

In the 10th minute Neil had a free header from a corner which he sent narrowly past the Caple goal.

Another corner a few minutes later was again headed wide of the Caple goal by Neil. Drumchapel continued to threaten with a third corner which was caught by Fulton.

Ardencaple’s first attempt at goal was decisive, Cameron picked the ball up 30 yards from goal, he was brought down just outside the box. He rifled the free kick into the top of the net to give Caple the lead.

MacGillivrays strong running up front was now causing Drumchapel problems, from one such run he found Mullender whose shot was turned away by keeper Kelly.

A ball from Cameron found Gray on the right, his cut back was blocked but he regained possession before his angled drive beat the keeper at his right hand post to put Caple 2-0 up.

A run by MacGiIIvray caused havoc in the Drumchapel defence and he picked out Mullender 6 yards from goal who took his time and slotted home Caple’s third.

Drumchapel made a strong start to the second half and Caple had keeper Fulton to thank for two good saves from close range.

With minutes remaining a McKelI drive was beaten away be keeper KelIy the rebound was lashed home by Gilchrist.

Ardencaple table-topping Oban at Hermitage Academy on Sunday, 12.15pm kick-off. A win would see Ardencaple pip Oban to win the league.
