RHU Amateurs' comfortable win 8-2 against Erskine Town in the West of Scotland Cup on Saturday was thrown into doubt when an Erskine player suffered a neck injury and the game was called to a halt 20 minutes into the second half.

Rhu were cruising after going into an 8-1 half-time lead, but when Erskine's number nine suffered a neck injury which required hospital treatment, an ambulance was called.

But with the player still on the pitch the game could not continue.

He suffered his injury in a goalmouth scramble and the game was abandoned.

Happily, the player recovered from his injury and was released from hospital the following day. Since the game Rhu have been awarded the tie.

The game was one way traffic with Rhu dominating against a poor Erskine team from the Strathclyde Saturday Morning AFL.

The goals came quickly in a frantic first half; the first came after six minutes from a Graham McCallum header from a Lee Dickson cross, and after 10 minutes it was two when Scott Leishman fired home from the edge of the box.

Five minutes later Gary Stilwell found the net from a Shaun Wallace cross, and Stuart McGillvary made it four, again from the edge of the box.

Rhu were queueing up now to get on the score sheet, but were caught out when Erskine's number nine broke clear and found the net.

Normal service resumed when John McColl fired home from a Wallace pass, and Lee Dickson got in on the act when he scored from a Stilwell corner to make it six.

With half-time approaching Stilwell hit a double, both from crosses by Wallace, to complete his hat-trick.

After the break Erskine got themselves organised better and pulled a goal back from a corner to complete the scoring.

Rhu are playing Westerlands at home this Saturday, October 29, in a friendly as they have no league fixture; kick-off is at 2pm.
