Helensburgh FC maintained top spot in their League Cup group with a 6-1 win over South Lochaber on Saturday.

The away side started well and pressed Burgh the home side onto the back foot, chances came their way in the opening 15 minutes but dogged defending kept the scoresheet blank.

The home side were finding it difficult to settle into their normal passing game that has brought them success in the past few weeks. however the home side slowly got themselves together and Jeffries came close as his shot went narrowly past. With the clock ticking towards half time and with Lochaber shaking their head at an astonishing miss by their striker burgh pounced, A break down the right by Martin and Rowe saw the ball being whipped across goal where Jeffries was waiting to slam the ball into the net for the opener and a real sickener for the visitors.

The visitors came flying out the traps in the second half and within the first five minutes had been through on goal, with only Gemmell in goal keeping them at bay, however the game all changed with the next goal, a great pass from Rowe was headed into the path of Jeffries who made know mistake as he shot low past the keeper. This blow really knocked the stuffing from the visitors and they were cut open again five minutes later, Brooks Tadlock finding himself free from the defence for once made no mistake to make it three. Lochaber to their credit did not sit back and they once again threatened the burgh defence which resulted in a free kick to them just outside the box from which they managed to reduce the deficit. Their resolve was shortly lived, Sub Ally Fagin on to replace the hard working Tadlock made it four when he coolly lobbed the ball over the keepers head five minutes after coming on. James Rowe made it Five when he knocked in across from Birnie and the Fagin completed the scoring with the best goal of the game, a sweeping move down the right wing, a fine low cross into the box from Martin and despatched beautifully into the net by Fagin.
