Helensburgh FC's senior team continued their good start to the season last Saturday when they secured a comprehensive 6-2 win over Busby in a Greater Glasgow Premier League tie at Clarkston.

Burgh totally dominated the first part of the game and were 4-0 up within 15 minutes. Sinclair opened the scoring, then Tadlock made it two when he successfully dispatched a penalty.

As the home side struggled to get to grips with a rampant Helensburgh side, Del Park made it three, with Brooks Tadlock securing his brace just before the first quarter of the game had gone.

The comfort of the four-goal cushion saw Helensburgh take their foot off the gas, allowing Busby to get a foothold, and they got one back just before the break.

Any thought of a comeback, however, were dismissed when Sinclair made it 5-1 just after the restart.

Despite further chances it took to the last fifteen minutes for the next one to come, Sinclair notching his hat-trick.

The home did manage to reduce the arrears when Makeham accidentally directed a shot past O'Brien in goal.

Stand in manager Davie Boxall was pleased with the performance, saying: "The boys have been excellent since the season started and it's easy to see why."

Next up is for Helensburgh is a home tie in the West of Scotland Cup against UCS this Saturday, September 16 - kick-off is at 2pm at Hermitage Academy.

* Meanwhile, Helensburgh's 2003s kicked off the season in great form beating last years champions, Renton Craigandro, 4-1 at home.

Helensburgh started well with Findlay Cowie, scoring after a great team move. Renton weren't allowed to settle on the ball and Helensburgh started to dominate the game as another from Cowie and a goal from Michael Thomson after a fantastic through ball from James Baird made it 3-0 to the home team at half time.

Helensburgh made five substitutions in the second half although that didn't seem to hamper the performance, and a 50 yard switch of the play from Aaron Sharkey led to left back Kaine Hamilton adding a fourth.

Renton pulled one back late on although the game was already well won by the Burgh team.

Helensburgh's 2005s, however, were on the wrong end of a footballing masterclass against Oban, with a Peacock penalty and a Montgomery shot that came back off the post the high points in a comprehensive defeat.

Although Oban were ruthless throughout, they were always respectful of the Helensburgh players and were a joy to watch from a footballing perspective.

Off the park, however, Helensburgh's 2005s are now ship-shape for the new season after receiving £500 sponsorship from Shipcraft Ltd.

Kenny Russell, coach of the 2005s team, said: “We are delighted to receive the support of Shipcraft Ltd, who recently supplied the team with new home strips for the season."

Peter Chalmers, the managing director of Shipcraft, said: “Our marine outfitting business is based in Helensburgh. We are only too pleased to be able to give something back to the town.

"My three sons have played for the club for around two years and we have been consistently impressed with the friendly, nurturing and fair ethos that is at Helensburgh FC's heart.

"There is a real sense of a family and community within the club and I’m more than happy that Shipcraft Ltd can support them in this small way.”
