Comeback comes to nothing
Rhu Ams 2 Viewfield Rovers 3
West of Scotland Cup Round One
IT was heartache for Rhu on Saturday after a spirited second half fightback saw them leading with only five minutes left on the clock.
A Viewfield winner eight minutes into injury time robbed Rhu of a deserved point.
Rhu decided to start with three up front against their Premier League opponents and on a heavy pitch put them under pressure early on.
Viewfield were trying to pass their way forward, but Rhu were closing them down.
It was an even contest with both teams having a go and chances were being created.
Viewfield had a clear chance on the right, but their striker hit wide.
Rhu also tested the Viewfield keeper, but it was the visitors who went ahead after half an hour when a mix up in the Rhu defence allowed their striker to bundle the ball home.
This was a bit harsh on Rhu, but Viewfield held onto the lead into the break.
The second half started much the same as the first, but Rhu were beginning to take control and only a brilliant save from the Viewfield keeper kept Davie Falconer out.
Rhu kept the pressure up and hit the equaliser with a terrific individual goal by Scott Smallwood when he ghosted past two defenders then fired home.
