Thomas spot on for Clyde NB
Glasgow Grads 2 Clyde NB 3
SEAN Thomas held his nerve from the spot to seal victory for Clyde NB at Glasgow Green on Saturday.
His late penalty proved decisive in a hard-fought encounter.
Going with the ferocious wind and rain in the first half saw the local team have numerous chances only to be thwarted by the in form Grads goalkeeper.
Clyde NB eventually broke the deadlock when fine play by Russell Makeham and Sean Thomas allowed Stephen Watson through on goal, and he neatly tucked the ball past the diving keeper.
Another breakthrough saw Neil Thomson through to put the Base team two up as he stretched onto a cross ball from Marc Couzins.
The second half saw a significant change due to the weather which the Grads used to their advantage and scored from a corner, then again from a long range deflected shot to make the game even.
However, in the 80th minute, an accurate pass from Jason Petchey found Makeham through on goal.
He was brought down in the penalty area, leaving the ref no option and Thomas took the penalty with ease to score the winner.
The final whistle was blown shortly after much to the delight of all players just wanting a hot shower.
