Rhu Ams 1 Gartcosh United 0

RHU gained a welcome three points on Saturday in a tight game which should have been done and dusted by half time.

With captain Martin Miller missing, Rhu brought in debutant Ben Porter to the centre of defence.

Rhu started with three up front and put Gartcosh under pressure from the start.

The game was fairly even early on but as the half progressed Rhu created chances but failed to convert them.

Wallace, Scullion and Black all found themselves one on one with the visiting keeper but failed to convert.

At the other end Rhu"s defence were in fine form and restricted Gartcosh to shots from distance.

Rhu eventually took the lead from the penalty spot after some slick play between Phillips and Falconer resulted in Phillips being brought down in the box.

Falconer converted the kick in his usual efficient manner.

Rhu went in at the break ahead but it should have been more.

After the interval, Rhu continued where they left off in the first half with Falconer next to squander a chance.

MacDonald did come close with a freekick but the keeper did well to foil him.

Gartcosh were beginning to fancy their chances with Rhu failing to increase their lead and were now putting pressure on the home defence but the home reargaurd were having a good day and were dealing with everything the visitors could throw at them.

Ballantyne and Tadlock were brought on as Rhu looked to tighten things up.

With 15 minutes left the visitors" No 10 was sent off for a reckless challenge on keeper Heron.

With time running out it was Rhu who had the jitters as ten man Gartcosh pushed forward and Rhu had Heron to thank when he thwarted Gartcosh"s striker who had a clear shot at goal.Rhu shut up shop after this and saw out the game.

This was a good win for Rhu but they will need to finish off teams when they are on top.

Rhu: Heron, MacDonald, McMillan, Brodie, Porter, Phillips, Gibson, Scullion, Black, Falconer, Wallace. Subs: Ballantyne, Tadlock and Walker.

l On Saturday, Rhu are away to Weirs Rec in a league game, kick-off 2.30pm.
