Rhu's early dominance crushed

Print | Email

Rhu Ams 2 St Mungo’s 3

This was the proverbial game of two halves on Saturday with St Mungo's dominating the first half and Rhu well on top in the second.

After a poor first half Rhu produced a storming second half only to be denied in a dramatic finish.

With the wind at their backs St Mungos got the ball forward early at every opportunity.

Rhu competed well enough early on but after fifteen minutes the visitors took the lead when their number eight headed home from a corner at the back post.

This gave St Mungos a lift and they went further ahead 10 minutes later when a misunderstanding in the Rhu defence allowed their number nine to run through and find the back of the net.

Rhu were under the cosh and almost went further behind when the visitors hit the bar but St Mungos did get a third when Rhu failed to clear their lines and the ball was bundled over the line.

Rhu almost got themselves back in the game when Phillips broke through but the visitors keeper was on hand to clear the danger.

With time running out St Mungos managed to keep their three goal advantage when they scrambled the ball off their goal line with Phillips about force the ball home.

The second half was to be the opposite of the first with Rhu now having the advantage of the wind.

It was St Mungos turn to struggle as Rhu piled forward. The visitors were trying to take the sting out of the game but Rhu deservedly pulled a goal back when Falconers persistence paid off and he found space for himself in the box before firing home.

It was all Rhu now and with 20 minutes left they got another when youngster Tadlock tapped the ball home after good work on the left by Falconer.

Dougie Black deserved better shortly after when his goal bound shot was deflected on to the post and was cleared.

With time running out St Mungos were hanging on.

It was injury time now and it looked as if Rhu had got what they deserved when they were awarded a spot kick after Falconer had been brought down in the box but cruelly the strikers shot went past the post.

Rhu can be pleased with their second half performance and deserved something out of the game.

Rhu: Heron, MacDonald, McMillan, Brodie, Miller, Phillips, Gibson, Scullion, Black, Falconer and Wallace. Subs Tadlock, Potter, Sinclair.

Rhu played Milngavie in a league game last night (Wednesday). They have no game this Saturday and play Glasgow Uni away next Wednesday in a league game ko 6.45pm.
