CAPLE won the U10s age group of the Ian Cullen Memorial Football tournament in Clydebank on Saturday.

The tournament was held in honour of Ian, a coach at Clydebank, who died tragically last December, aged just 39 .

This, the first year of the tournament, brought together teams from across Clydebank, Dumbarton and Helensburgh at GOALS in Clydebank.

As part of Ardencaple BC, Caple "99s were invited to participate by Ian"s partner Angela Smith.

Caple won all three games in the first round, tying with Kilpatrick Reds to qualify for the final play off.

A dramatic penalty shoot-out was won by Caple, putting them through to the final with favourites Clydebank.

A tight match followed, with Clydebank scoring the opener. Caple showed great team spirit by equalising not once, but twice before scoring a third and fourth goal in quick succession in the final minutes of the match, making the final score 4-2.

Caple Coach, Calum Maclean said: 'The boys played their hearts out and really encouraged each other on.

'Ellis Robertson scored then they sealed the match in the final moments with two great winning goals from Joe Drover.

'What made their win even more remarkable was that, as the tournament was played on a bank holiday weekend, we had no subs as many of the team couldn"t come along.

'The eight boys who played were tired as they had to play some of their matches back to back, but their team spirit and positive attitude really won the day.

'I"m delighted for the boys, and also very grateful to Angela for organising such a well run tournament.'

The winning team comprised: Calum Alcorn, James Knott, Lewis McKechnie, Seb Keating, Calum Caskie, Ross Maclean, Ellis Robertson and Joe Drover.
