In the annual round robin tournament the top two teams from each group successfully went through to a cup competition with the other teams challenging for the Active Schools/Ardencaple Plate.

The top four teams battled out keenly contested matches in the cup with the other teams also playing some good competitive football, with a number of close matches in the plate competition.

The Active Schools/Ardencaple Cup competition provided lots of exciting football, well taken goals and closely fought contests. The competition came down to the final nail biting match to decide the overall victor, with Rhu requiring a win and a draw being sufficient for Cardross. After an entertaining match with Cardross taking the lead and Rhu equalising and pushing for a winner it was Cardross Primary who prevailed as worthy winners of the 2013 competition.

In the plate competition, a determined Lomond team retained the trophy, edging to victory on goal difference after finishing on the same points as St Josephs. Rosneath and John Logie Baird also competed keenly in the Plate competition with some close matches on the night.

Martin Caldwell, Argyll and Bute Council Active Schools coordinator, said: “Although there is an obvious element of competition, the event is played in good spirit with an important aspect about having fun and a chance to meet children from other schools.

“I would like to thank those at Ardencaple Football Club, including Andy Black and Simone MacLeod, school staff and parents who attended to support the teams on the night and to Euan Birss, Tony McCann and Karl Johansson, who worked hard over the two nights and refereed all the matches.

The event is expected to be run again next year providing much needed inter school sports opportunities for local children.
