ONE of Hermitage Academy’s top young footballers has been called up to play for the Central Scotland under-13s after impressing while playing for his club team, Ardencaple.

Ross Cathro and his twin brother Stuart, who have played for Ardencaple since they were five, were two of a number of talented youngsters asked to attend trials for the SYFA team, and after playing well in the trials, Ross was invited back to train with the team who meet every second Friday, in Airdrie.

Ross’ proud mother, Laura Cathro, said: “Ross was delighted and it is great for him because it gives him the chance to see what else is out there and how other teams and other players train.” Ardencaple have produced a number of talented players recently and Euan Birss, club treasurer, was delighted to see Ross become the latest to be recognised, he said: “Being selected for the Central Region 2001 squad is great reward for Ross who, along with his twin brother, have trained and played for Ardencaple since the age of five.
