With three forced changes from the last week’s victory the boys settled well, and were comfortable against a physical Hamilton side.

Rhu took the lead when good work by Thomson found Neil whose well placed shot from 10 yards found the bottom corner. Hamilton were looking to bounce back and forced a serious of corners but despite the height disadvantage the boys were digging deep and fighting hard for every ball.

Rhu were dangerous on the break and McGillivray was proving a handful up front, but no more goals gave the away side the half-time advantage.

The away side were expecting Hamilton to come out all guns blazing and within 10 minutes they were level when a corner wasn’t cleared and the ball was blasted in.

Rhu never paniced and continued to attack retook the lead when a corner from the left wasn’t cleared, McGillivray’s header was blocked and the attempted clearance was smashed against a Hamilton player and the ball flew into the net to make it 1-2.

Rhu settled again and Hamilton made three changes, this gave them a boost and they equalised when a free-kick was met at the back post and headed across goal and the number eight slammed the ball in, Rhu claimed for a push but the referee was having none of it.

With the game now into stoppage time, Hamilton got their winner from another corner when a Hamilton player got free to head the ball into the net and leave the Rhu players gutted.

Rhu would like to thank Stewart and Shields for the sponsorship of a match ball on their recent West of Scotland Cup match against Hamilton Thistle.
