The 17-year-old from Roseneath is the goalkeeper for Rangers under-17 side and was part of the team which has won the league, League Cup and Scottish Cup in the last three years without losing a game along the way, a feat unlikely to be readily repeated at any level of football.

The Hermitage Academy pupil said: “It was such a good feeling, it’s never been done before so to be part of it was unbelievable. It’s a great achievement, we have hardly made any signings in the last few years so it has been the same team and we have just clicked. The defence and team in front of me hardly let anything through.

“It’s a good level we play at as well, Celtic and Glasgow City have teams in the league.” The profile of women’s football in Scotland is perhaps higher than ever with Glasgow City reaching the quarter-finals of this season’s Champions League — the first Scottish side to do so.

However Lauren hope her future lies in the country where women’s football is most prominent, across the pond in America.

She said: “I’m hoping to get a football scholarship in America. I sat the SATs a couple of weeks ago, the results are due any day and that will determine if I can go over or not. I’ve been looking at some universities over there and can definitely see myself there.

“Women’s football is the fastest growing sport in the U.S, it’s huge. It would be great to play there and learn more about the sport while I study.” Lauren also coaches at Ardencaple FC and would like to coach in the future. However she concedes that barriers do still exist for young women who want a prolonged career in football.

She said: “The sexism issue is still a problem. When I was at primary school training was mixed and I was the only girl in the football team.

I was told to go back and play with my barbies, even though I was doing well and better than a lot of the boys.

“There’s still a stereotype issue in football and in society in general. It’s assumed that young girls are good at putting on makeup but not assumed that they will be good at sport, when so many are very athletic.”
