The bid will take place at Lomond Sports Hall on Sunday, March 8 from 9am until 5pm as part of Red Nose Day which is to be televised on Friday, March 13.

Although Ardencaple FC are coordinating the ambitious attempt in conjunction with theirs major sponsor Helensburgh Toyota. It is being organised to encourage participation from the wider local community in.

The current record was set in 2012 is 1860 penalties. It was set by a club affiliated with Bundesliga side 1860 Munich.

The new target is 1968, which is the year that Ardencaple FC was established.

Guinness rules stipulate that each person who takes part can only hit one penalty, for the attempt to be successful a lot of help from the local community will be required.

The club hope to feature on the Red Nose broadcast itself. Murdo MacLeod will kick-off the event and Walter Smith, Ardencaple club president will take the last penalty, and they hope a number of other celebrities will take part during the course of the day.

Ardencaple has around 250 children members, and they expect most of them to come along with some of their family members. In fact, anyone who is willing to have a go and hopefully contribute to a little piece of history being achieved in Helensburgh.
