The side of seven included sisters Sarah and Zoe Kemp from Helensburgh and Lori McDonald from Cardross in the competition held at Hamilton Golf Club on June 24.

The side faced off against their counterparts from Ayrshire, Lanarkshire and Renfrewshire in the handicap tournament, with foursomes in the morning and singles in the afternoon with a complicated draw ensuring competitors from each county play someone from every other side.

Dunbartonshire and Argyll picked up the win, victorious with eight and a half points out of a possible nine.

Sarah Kemp won her singles match four and three and Zoe, who wound up in the final pair, was all square following 17 holes. The final hole fell silent as her opponent hit her putt strong and watched it bounce off the rim and in meaning the youngster had to sink her effort to win — but she showed good composure and easily holed out for a fantastic victory.

Elsewhere, 14-year-old Jillian Farrell, daughter of Cardross professional Robert Farrell, was included in the senior county tram in the west inter-county matches. As a member of the senior team Jillian was not allowed to play in the junior side as well but was on hand in Hamilton to support the side.
