HELENSBURGH Golf Club hosted the 11 hole Pro-shop Stableford competitions on Saturday with 53 players taking part.

In what was the club’s largest field of the winter, some great scoring was headed by playing partners Bob Berry and Roy Nesbitt.

Bob won with a very impressive 28 points over 11, including a no score at the 9th. Roy was 2nd with 26pts. In 3rd was George Gill with 24 and coincidently all of the top 3 had a magic two on their scorecard.

Next week sees an 18 hole Stableford. Contact the Pro-shop if you want to get involved.

On Sunday HGC held the Frost-biters’ Pot as there was a spare Sunday and good weather. With the Frostbite Competition coming to an end last week, and a good weekend of weather predicted, Fraser Hall and Frostbite organiser David Hogg prepared a one-off Frost-biters’ Pot event adhering to the same format to take place on Mother’s Day. Thirty players each put £5 into the pot for a chance of some reward in the early spring sunshine. By early afternoon Danny Lafferty, who had led all day on 26 points looked like his pension was about to be boosted.

However, there was disappointment for Danny and George as Allister Parlane and Phil Armstrong, who were among the last players out, each scored 27 points.

In the spirit of the day no count back was applied and each collected a welcome £75 to spend wisely, no doubt on flowers and chocolate, and maybe a few golfing gizmos.

A spokesman for the club said: “Hard luck to Danny and thanks to all who took part.

“Next week sees the main schedule of competitions starting back again with many more exciting events this year organised by our hard working captain and management committee

“So now is the time to get your game in shape for a fun season ahead.”
