ALAN BIRNIE and Euan Fraser took the honours in Helensburgh Golf Club's first competition of the new season - the Spring Cleaning Trophy.

Alan and Euan's 44 stableford points gave them a two-point margin of victory in the stableford competition ahead of runners-up Mark Birnie and Gordon McGregor.

The four-player RNLI Team Scramble followed on Saturday, April 1, with Dougie Singleton, John Gallagher, Dougie Stewart and Robert Dunbar coming together to produce a formidable gross score of 63, giving them a net 51 and victory by a considerable margin.

This was helped by the team scoring twos at the par-three ninth hole and again at the par-four 10th.

In second place was the team of Peter Mundie, Sandy Bulloch and brothers Andy and Steve Donald with a net score of 55.2, playing off a team handicap of 6.8.
