2009 Festival of Golf Week finally came to satisfactory conclusion on Wednesday when the rescheduled Midway Tournament, postponed from its original date because of torrential rain, attracted a field of 103 competitors.

Heavy overnight rain threatened a further postponement but the course, assisted by a strong wind absorbed the downpour with head green keeper Gavin Jarvis and his team including amateur helpers receiving well-deserved praise for the outstanding condition of the course.

The trophy was won by Michael McGuigan from Clober Golf Club with 39 points with the remaining seven prizes going to members of the home club with former champion Alan Scott and current champion Peter Haggarty in second and third places.

The event was generously sponsored by Messrs M & T Builders Merchants Limited whose Alan Trail presented the prizes.

LEADING SCORES: 39PTS: Michael McGuigan (9) (Clober): 38PTS: Alan Scott (4): 37PTS: Peter Haggarty (SCR): Hammy Parker (9): David Hogg (13): 36PTS: Kenny Hale (13): 35PTS: Colin Cameron (8).

The conditions for the August qualifier of the Ormond Medal were so severe that almost half of the 84 competitors failed to return their cards.

Those who did complete the 18 holes included some outstanding performances on a day when the Standard Scratch Score increased by its two-stroke maximum to 71 with sub SSS scores from Dominic Taylor, Simon Barras, Graham Reid, Stephen Donald and George Findlay with pride of place going to Dominic Taylor for his brilliant 63.
