Aussie competition hits Helensburgh
HELENSBURGH Golf Club gents turned the world on its head last Saturday when they participated in an Australian Stableford.
This in competition terms was the club’s most recent import having been introduced to it by John Ullinger, a potter from Down Under who became a temporary member of the club over a year ago.
In the competition, teams of two adopt the stableford format in three mini tournaments wherein the individual points achieved by each member of the pair are taken in to account separately, then in aggregate and finally by multiplication.
A clutch of invigilators ultimately calculate the scores which they reveal when they finally emerge from a darkened room.
In this case four couples returned fantastic scores of 60 points sharing the proceeds of the Ullinger Pot fashioned by the friendly Aussie using clay from the course.
The winning pairs were Bill McKeirnan/Robert Blyth, Tommy Daly/Bob Berry, Alan Rankin/Craig McPhee and Gordon Mickel/Graham Reid.
The competition was organised by the enthusiastic Fraser Hall. Leading scores: 60PTS: B McKeirnan/R Blyth: A Rankin/C McPhee: T Daly/B Berry: G Mickel/G Reid: 55PTS: J Sharp/D Singleton: 54PTS: I Doig/A Ross: S Bulloch/S Donald: 53PTS: G English/R McKay.
