HELENSBURGH golfers have been battling the elements to record some low scores for the club.

On Sunday, 103 players took part in Helensburgh Golf Club’s annual Midway Open, sponsored by M&T Builders Merchants, Helensburgh. Overnight rain and intermittent showers, during the day, made for heavy going on the course with a CSS of 72.

Nevertheless, Helensburgh produced a winner in Billy Trail, related to M&T Builders Merchants, who scored 39 points in the stableford format to achieve victory for the club. Jason Millar, of Windyhills GC, came a close second with 37 points. In third place, was David Smith, Whitekirk GC, 36 points, and in fourth came Helensburgh’s Neil Thompson with 35 points and the best inward half.

Nearest the pin challenges were won by Mark Gallagher, Vale of Leven GC, at the 11th and Ruairidth McQueen, Dougalston GC, at the 16th. Nearest the pin in two, at the 18th, for handicaps 1-12, was won by Soni Ahmed, Clydebank GC, and for handicaps 13-24, by Steven Walker, Helensburgh.

Congratulations to all the winners and many thanks to M&T for their support of the club.
