Rhu fly through to next round

RHU AMTS - 5 Glasgow Deaf - 0

AFTER last Saturday's Scottish Cup exit Rhu welcomed Glasgow Deaf from the Paisley and District league for this West of Scotland round two tie.

A more straight forward game was anticipated and that was how it turned out as Rhu dominated from the off.

Rhu were missing several players but still proved too strong for their opponents.

And they got off to a flier and were 2-0 up within 15 minutes. David Sinclair got the first when he burst through on the right and fired the ball low in to the net.

The second came from the penalty spot after Davie Phillips had been brought down in the box. Liam Conroy made no mistake with the spot kick. Rhu should have kicked on from there and added to their score but a mixture of good goalkeeping from the visiting keeper and poor finishing from the Rhu forwards kept the score at 2-0.

Rhu continued the pressure in the second half with not too much heading towards home keeper Everden. After missing several chances Rhu increased their lead midway through the half when Davie Phillips made space for himself in the box before firing into the bottom corner.

Shortly after it was four when debutant John McColl hit a first time volley in to the roof of the net. Rhu were well on top now and added a fifth when Liam Conroy headed home a MacDonald cross.

This was a comfortable victory for Rhu and can look forward to the round three draw.

RHU: Everden, MacDonald, Thomson, Brodie, McMillan, Grant, Phillips, Scullion, Sinclair, Conroy and McColl. SUBS: Karlsen, Heron.

On Saturday Rhu are at home again when they face Weirs Rec in the Douglas Smith League Cup. Kick-off is at 2pm with the game being played to a finish with extra time and penalties if required.
