Gartcosh United 1 Rhu Amts 2

RHU continued their good form on Saturday with a hard-fought win against a strong Gartcosh side.

Rhu started with the strong wind behind them and had most of the early play. Gartcosh were finding it hard going and were making little impression on the Rhu defence.

Rhu almost went ahead after 20 minutes when David Sinclair's cross was just missed by both Phillips and Falconer. Rhu continued the pressure and got the opener when Davie Phillips pounced on a Patrick Scullion pass and cracked the ball in to the net.

After the break it was Gartcosh's turn to have the wind at their backs and they put Rhu under pressure from the off. Although not creating many chances Rhu were defending well and dealing with anything Gartcosh could throw at them. With time running out it looked as if Rhu would hold out but a long throw in to the penalty box gave the home team the equaliser with 15 minutes left.

Instead of feeling sorry for themselves Rhu pushed forward and got their reward when Davie Phillips cross from the right was met by Davie Falconer and he slammed the ball home for the winner.

This was another great performance from Rhu and their third away win on the trot.

Rhu: Heron, MacDonald, Thomson, Brodie, Grant, Phillips, Miller, Scullion, Black, Sinclair, Falconer. Sub Conry. Rhu are at home on Saturday to champions-elect Milton, kick-off at 2.30pm.
