MEDALLISTS: Duncan Anderson, Christy Morrison, Isobel Thwaites and Amy McNeill

A GROUP of four Helensburgh ASC swimmers made the long trip south to take part in the SASA west district group three championships at the DG One Leisure Centre in Dumfries.

The weekend produced a mixed bag of results with Christy Morrison getting two new personal best times in the 200m freestyle and 200m backstroke, while swimming slower than her previous bests in the 200m butterfly and 800m freestyle.

Amy McNeill produced similarly contrasting results in her swims with two swims slower than her previous best times in the 200m butterfly and 400m freestyle, but with a PB in the 200m freestyle and finishing her weekend off on a high with a PB time, and a new club record, in the 200m backstroke.

Isobel Thwaites achieved two good PBs in her 200m breaststroke and 200m freestyle.

Her effort in the breaststroke earned her a fifth place medal and she missed out on third by only nine tenths of a second.

Duncan Anderson had a great weekend, starting with a new PB in the 200m individual medley, narrowly missing out on a medal in finishing seventh.

However, he more than made up for this in his 200m backstroke where he took nine seconds off his previous best time in finishing first to become the SASA west district group three 200m 12-year-old boys' champion for 2010.

Duncan swam tremendously in this race, leading from the start and timing his final sprint perfectly to hold off a final challenge from the other competitors.

He then narrowly missed out on a new PB in his final event of the weekend, the 200m breaststroke.

The club is proud of the achievements of all the swimmers, especially considering the limitation in training and resources due to the prolonged closure of Helensburgh swimming pool this year.
