CRAIGHELEN Tennis and Squash club has joined forces with the Active Schools coordinator to launch a new sporting initiative.
The Participation in Sport Initiative, created by Craighelen Development Director David Thorpe has received the full support of Active Schools coordinator Martin Caldwell.
It aims to get tennis coaching into primary schools in the area on a regular basis and encourage more youngsters to make a racket, or hit a ball.
Craighelen Head Coach Andrew Polwarth will visit Colgrain, Hermitage, John Logie Baird and St Joseph Primary Schools on a weekly basis and introduce programmes focusing on health, physical development, sports participation and of course fun.
There will also be the opportunity for the children to visit Craighelen and play on the all weather courts. A fun day at Craighelen with all the schools participating will also be organised during the summer months.
The pilot scheme, sponsored by accountants Miller Colquhoun, will start by targeting the Helensburgh area then look to roll out further if successful.
Lorna Jackson, Head Teacher of Hermitage Primary (whose pupils are pictured) was very enthusiastic about the new community club and school links.
She said: 'We are delighted to be part of this exciting project which will encourage the children to keep fit.'
Craighelen are very keen to roll out this initiative to the other schools in the area but would need support from sponsors.
If you can help, please contact David Thorpe at Craighelen on 01436 675403.
