THE opening match of the new Lomond School cricket season began against a team mainly made up of father"s of the first XI team.
This has become an annual match with Lomond enjoying wins in this encounter over the past few years.
But with many of the top players having left the school last year, this was going to be a much tighter game.
Lomond lost the toss which was not a problem as their side contains several good bowlers. They struck early, taking the key wicket of Colin Neill, the parents" captain.
Richard Churchill, Mark Cook and Peter Sajjad bowled well to leave the parents 105 all out, with only Dr Sajjad surviving until the end.
Schools" captain Matthew Stocks was bowled out early on but Dylan Black managed a magnificent 37 runs while Michael Sajjad (8), Andrew Merriman (12) and Niall Hope (16) also played an important part.
When Black"s wicket fell, the school team needed to find 20 runs with three batsmen left and they sealed victory wit a final four from Euan Mansley, rounding off a great team effort.
