A KILCREGGAN biker had a lucky escape in his first race of the season.

Adam Lyon was knocked unconscious and could not walk for two hours after a massive crash at Brands Hatch in round one of the British Superstock 600 championship.

While his older brother Liam was crossing the line in an impressive sixth position, racing for Team Haribo Starmix, Adam was being treated at a medical centre after a full-speed crash.

The Hermitage Academy pupil had pulled out all the stops to reach the main event. He faced a race against time after breaking his collar bone during his Winter training. And at the famous south east circuit, he booked his place at 29th on the grid after emerging victorious from a qualifying play-off.

But in front of thousands of spectators, Adam was sent sprawling when the rider in front of him suddenly swerved across his vision.

He said: 'I saw a bike lying on the ground directly in front of me in the middle of my path. It was too late to even think about trying to move and I had nowhere else to go other than straight into it, sending me into the air and landing very heavily on the back of my head.

'The next thing I know is being in the medical centre after being knocked out for quite some time. I can"t thank the medical team enough for their work on saving me, I appreciate it greatly.'

Adam, who also needed his arm stitched back together again, later discovered the collision had created a massive fireball.
