A NUMBER of Helensburgh swimmers travelled to Scotstoun recently to compete for the Lomond Masters Swimming Club in the Scottish Masters Championships. After entering a variety of individual and relay races, the team were rated seventh in Scotland and walked away with 10 gold medals, five silver and six bronze with Chris Graham, from Helensburgh, taking an impressive four gold medals as well as two silver and a bronze.

Chris took gold in the 100 metre freestyle and 200 metre freestyle, silver in 400 metre freestyle and bronze in 100 metre individual medley, and was also part of the two gold relay medals. Craig McGlashan was also in inspired form, winning an impressive five gold medals in the 100 metre breaststroke, 100 metre butterfly, 50 metres breaststroke while he was also part of the two gold relay medals (200 metre medley and 200 metre freestyle relays).

Other individual medallists included Glen Sloss who took silver in the 200 metre breaststroke, and bronze medals in both the 100 metre freestyle and 100 metre breaststroke Nick Valentine raced to gold in the 200 metre individual medley as did Dot Scott in the 200 metre freestyle while Brenda Orr took gold in the 100 metre backstroke and silver in the 50 metre backstroke. Cat Holling was another double medal winner, taking silver in the 50 metre breast stroke and bronze in the 100 metre backstroke.

The team's position as seventh in Scotland was secured with two gold, a silver and two bronzes in the relay events.
