LOMOND Roads Cycling Club got the new season off to a roaring start in the early season Icebreaker team time trial.

Impeccably organised by Fullarton Wheelers Cycling Club, the event saw teams of two riders complete a 10 mile loop near Eglinton, Ayrshire and took place in fine but cold weather on Sunday morning.

Fifty-five teams competed, with the fastest time of 20 minutes and 21 seconds set by Silas Goldsworthy and Alan Thomson of Sandy Wallace Cycles.

Gary Bratt, riding for Lomond Roads CC and partnered with Nick Tryon of Dooleys Cycles, came fifth in 21:59. While five other teams represented Lomond Roads, all finishing within a minute of each other — David Barclay and Graeme Daly (23:53), Gordon Dick and Paul Gareze (24.20), Stuart Donaghy and Jack Walker (24:29), Iain McKay and Allan Ross (24:42), Brian Cameron and Martin Edgar (24:52).

The strong entry by Lomond Roads in this early season event showed the commitment to training despite the difficult winter weather.

All of the club’s training activities, including Saturday club runs, Sunday spins, Monday turbo sessions, Tuesday road training and Wednesday circuits have been well attended, and many club members are making regular use of the Sir Chris Hoy velodrome.

Despite the numbers racing on Saturday, the club run to Largs was well attended and enjoyed some of the best weather of the year so far.

Next Saturday, the club will hold the annual “100 in 8” reliability trail. This traditional event provides an opportunity to ride 100 miles at a steady pace with the support of an experienced group of cyclists. The run will depart at 9am from Kilbowie roundabout, Clydebank. For those with less time, fitness or experience, a “50 in 4” run will depart from the same place at 10.30am New faces are welcome for the reliability rides, as for all other club events. For those who are new to club cycling, a beginners group departs from Kilbowie roundabout at 9.30am on the first Saturday of each month, led by an experienced club cyclist.
