Members at the club have enjoyed a variety of activities from the first ever game of UV tennis in Scotland to regular matches, tournaments and festivals.

As well as hosting a number of events for adult members, junior members were ably coached throughout winter by Alimacs Tennis with Mini Red and Mini Orange Juniors having the luxury of moving indoors to Lomond School, whilst the older juniors braved the weather at Cardross.

This has enabled junior development to continue throughout the winter with a number of juniors coming up through the ranks under the coaching of Alan Macbeath and the rest of his coaching team.

Alimacs also hosted three indoor Mini Red competitions over winter with Ewan McCartney coming out top in February, followed closely by Luca Gibson.

Alan Macbeath, Alimacs Tennis said “Cardross is such a welcoming and friendly village. It’s great to be able to offer a high quality tennis service to such a fantastic community.

“The coaches that we have working for Alimacs Tennis, Ross Kennedy, Katherine McPhie, Dylan Brown, Daniel Clancy and Jacob Siems, are exceptional in their ability and enthusiasm for the sport.

“Having seen the capabilities of these youngsters I am excited for the future of Alimacs Tennis.” Alimacs Tennis organised a number of fun events for Cardross Tennis Club over the winter months to keep members on court whatever the weather.

The end of the summer season was marked by a Halloween event which featured the first ever game of UV tennis in Scotland.

The emphasis was on fun with a fantastic turnout from members who embraced dressing up and enjoyed the novelty of playing under UV lights.

The winter season also saw members enjoy the Christmas Tournament and the Cardross Oz Open which featured upside down scoring and a number of fun penalties.

The membership at Cardross has continued to grow over the winter, allowing for the refurbishment of the interior of the clubhouse, while the club are also engaged in a fund-raising drive to further improve facilities and support junior development.

Rob Irving, membership secretary, said: “The past year has been fantastic for Cardross Tennis Club, with a spectacular increase in membership numbers and in the general level of activity at the club.

“In particular, we are hugely indebted to Alan Macbeath for playing such a major role in the revival of the club — his ongoing contribution to the club is immense.

“We are delighted to have two men’s teams in the West of Scotland League this year, and for the first time in many years, a ladies’ team.

“This features a number of new members who have been coached by Alan over the past year to a standard that enables them to play at a competitive level.

“Alan will also manage the junior teams and it is very gratifying to have so many teams competing again in the district leagues” As part of this effort, a jumble sale will be held on April 5 at the Church Halls in Cardross.  Anyone who would like to donate to the sale please call Steven on 07887 758646 to arrange for your unwanted items to be collected.
