Katherine Walker and Katie McGlinchey have started 2014 in top form and have now both been called up for Argyll and Bute.

As well as individual success, Lomond School’s open squad gained direct entry into the quarter finals of the Scottish Cup Gold section following their impressive results in the group sections before Christmas.

Unfortunately, they were drawn against last year’s winners, Peebles. Despite huge commitment from the whole squad and a valiant effort in defence from captain Rebecca Edgar, Iona Hamilton and Sally Ram Lomond fell to defeat.

The school’s second year team also had a long run, exiting in the semi-final of the bronze cup to Braidhurst High. The team contained a number of novice players who were supported by captain Wallis Jamieson, Amber Colquhoun and Millie Grover who shared their experience and skill to lead this new team in their cup run.

Elsewhere in the school, the third year team have also been in fine form and defeated Hamilton College 21-10 in the quarter finals of the Gold Cup after excellent shooting from Kimberley Rijsdijk and Katherine Walker, and an impressive debut at this level from Rebecca Hordern to set up a semi-final tie against St George’s at home.

The semi-final was a tense affair with only ever a couple of goals between the teams. Impressive play in mid-court from Morven Rowan and Caitlin Rowan saw Lomond capitalise on the St George’s errors early in the match.

Lomond matched St George’s in every part of the court but, despite their best efforts, the St. George’s team snatched victory at the end to reach the final.

However, finishing as one of the top four teams in the country at third year level is no mean feat.
