The club hosted their second Great British Tennis Weekend of the season and, just like Murray’s 2013 Wimbledon campaign, it could not have gone much better.

Alimacs Tennis ran the on court activities with a range of classes being held from mini tennis to cardio tennis.

Kate Mitchell, secretary of Cardross Tennis Club, said: “It has been a fantastic weekend and it is clear that Wimbledon fever has hit Cardross.

“The committee is delighted with the support the club has received from its members and the Cardross Trust and are extremely pleased to see that the membership continues to rise.” The club was busy throughout the weekend with a number of people picking up a racket for the first ever time while, due to the popularity of the first event, the club held some additional off court activities to keep the youngsters occupied while the adults took to the courts.

The coconut shy and beat the goalie proved very popular and mini bowls were also set up for members to experience.

In keeping with the Wimbledon theme, strawberries and cream were served along with a range of refreshments. A fund raising raffle was also held with the star prize being a Head racket, donated by Alan Macbeath of Alimacs Tennis.

On Sunday the club hosted ‘Wimbers 2014’, a fun doubles tournament. Just under 30 members took part and the winners on the day were Gary Glen and Harrison Carmichael who narrowly beat Jim Carruthers and Mark Rooney.

Cardross Tennis Club and Alimacs Tennis have also just launched a programme of coaching and summer camps for junior and adults. All camps will be led by Alan Macbeath, LTA Community Coach of the Year 2014. For more information contact cardrosstennisclub@gmail.com or alimacstennis@gmail.com.
