The annual Helensburgh and District Vets tournament for players from the four local clubs, turned into a Craighelen only event this year. Not deterred by the lack of entrants from the other clubs or the drizzly weather, 12 Craighelen stalwarts turned up to take part and then enjoy a social meal and drink on completion.

With round numbers of six women and six men, a mixture of five different rounds of ladies, gents and mixed doubles were played before the heavy rain settled in.

Despite the miserable weather, Sue Black and Willie Robertson were crowned the overall winners.

The series of Ian Drummond tournaments for the Craighelen ladies continued with an evening tournament last Wednesday. Twelve ladies took part in the penultimate round with the joint winners on the evening Louise Robertson and Catherine Gould.

After enjoying a competitive day on the court, the action was rounded off with an enjoyable supper and a chat around the table.

Over the period of the tournament this year a total of 22 ladies have taken part with Fiona MacPherson currently in pole position to win the trophy, although there are a few ladies running a close second.

The final tournament takes place on Wednesday, September 10 with the Ian Drummond Salver being presented to the winner at the lunch following completion of play.

The draw for the 2014 Craighelen Club Championships has taken place and will be published on the noticeboard at the club very shortly. Everyone is invited to come along and enjoy watching some great tennis and join in the social side of the sport.

Finals day is Saturday, September 6 followed by the prize giving BBQ in the evening — for tickets and more details contact Claire on clairemcg70@hotmail.co.uk.
