The ladies first team had two home matches first against Kilmalcolm which saw the Craighelen ladies take a 5-1 victory.

First couple Sue Black and Susan Bell had a great first set, coming back from 2-5 down to take it 7-5.

With the first set under their belt Sue and Susan ploughed on and took the next two sets 6-2, 6-1 against strong opposition.

On court two Eileen Drummond and Lesley McGowan took the first set 6-4; in the second set they found themselves 2-5 down but in the same spirit as their team mates they came back to take it 7-5.

The third set ended 3-6, the only set that the visitors won, resulting in a 5-1 victory for Craighelen.

Back in action at home the next night against Giffnock, Sue and Susan took the first set 6-3 against an extremely strong pair who play premier league tennis in the summer leagues.

Despite some great rallies and amazing displays of tennis the Craighelen pair couldn’t overcome Giffnock who took the next two sets 1-6, 4-6.

In the second couple Lesley was played with daughter Claire McGowan in a marathon match, some rallies of over 35 shots.

The first set was a close one and the Craighelen pair came back from 2-4 down to take it in a tie break 7-5.

The Giffnock pair dug in and took the second set in more convincing form 1-6.

With the overall match result standing at 3-2 in Giffnock’s favour, Lesley and Claire started the third set knowing that they need to take the third set not only to win their match but to hold the overall score to a draw.

With some more lengthy rallies, the pair won the third set 6-4; securing a 3-3 draw. Craighelen 1st Ladies Vets remain unbeaten and are still sitting top of division 3a with one match to go.

The Craighelen Ladies Vets 2 also played at home to Kilmacolm on Wednesday, October 1 on another evening which could have passed for summer.

At first couple Margo Lamb and Lesley Robertson won their match 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 for Craighelen.

Playing up at second couple Catherine Gould and Elizabeth Sammon had a very good match which they won 6-2, 3-6, 6-3. An overall 4-2 win for Craighelen The Craighelen Ladies 3rd Team made a short trip across town for their match on Friday evening against Helensburgh Fifth Team.

Anne Doig and Elizabeth Sammon played at first couple against Ann McKelvie and Christine Sinclair winning 5-7, 4-6, 0-6.

Fiona Thomson played at second couple with Susan Callaghan who was a last minute stand in, against Trish Pryde and Frankie Hanmer, winning 3-6. 3-6, 4-6 resulting in a 0-6 win for the Craighelen Team.
