Burgh’s first team took to the court with a full squad for the first time this season and faced an experienced Eastbank side.

Eastbank, though, were quick out the blocks and netted first, breaking Helensburgh’s centre pass.

The Burgh team held their nerve and Alison Ayton as centre took control of the game in mid-court alongside Rebecca Gammon in wing attack.

They gelled seamlessly and with the shooting combination of Lou Mundie and Alison Ross they converted each and every chance that came their way to pull back the score-line.

Helping Helensburgh finish the quarter one goal up.

In quarter two the defence of Rhonda Philips, Sally Ram and Steph Hart were able to control the Eastbank attack and they remarkably only conceded three goals in the 15 minute period forcing.

Eastbank were forced to make some big changes for the remainder of the match but Burgh continued to dominate finishing the quarter 13-3.

Iona Hamilton took to the court in the third quarter at goalkeeper and used her height advantage to win almost every rebounded shot from the Eastbank shooters.

Although Eastbank changes, as well as their admirable tenacity, helped slow the flood gates they could not pull back sufficiently to mount a serious challenge in the final quarter.

Each Helensburgh player reached their full potential in this match which led to some sublime play, prompting the opposing coach to remark that it was the best she has ever seen Helensburgh play.

Shooting from Alison and Lou was very impressive, securing a 51 to 30 victory and Lou Mundie player of the match title. Helensburgh’s second team match followed and was equally nail biting with a win over Scotstoun and player of the match going to Ilona Grieve.
