Although the headline of ‘Nothing succeeds like success’ may have left a little to be desired, the article told of two Burgh athletes who were being helped financially in their quest for sporting success.
The Scottish Sports Aid Foundation awarded tennis player Malcolm Watt and windsurfer Melinda Abraham grants of £150.
Watt was 15 at the time and a member of Craighelen tennis club. He competed in Scottish junior tournaments and had junior caps to his name in 1984.
Abraham was the second lady home in the British Broadsailing Championships in July of that year and the winner in the British youth Championships in the same month.
