Singleton led the tournament into this week, but only by the slimmest of margins from Robert Dunbar who was hot on his heels, a half point behind and Stuart Latimer sitting in third.

Unfortunately neither Stuart nor Robert could improve on their scoring and Dougie showed his quality by winning this week’s game to post a winning overall total of 22.17 points.

This week only 12 players headed out in the snow and rain and Singleton won with 21 points followed by Eddie Somerville on 20 points. Graeme Biggar won the scorecard raffle and collected a sleeve of Srixon balls.

Well done to all who have played since the competition started in November last year, 69 players took part, playing 210 games over nine weeks.

Unfortunately four weeks had to be cancelled due to weather conditions, but hopefully the enjoyment of playing golf in good company with the chance of a prize or two will encourage players out again in November when the challenge starts again. As a final incentive, the hole-in-one pot is still unclaimed and will start at £335.

Forty players took part in Saturday’s 11 hole stableford.

On a rain soaked course and difficult winter greens, some participants could have been forgiven for thinking that returning a score in the low 20s might have been enough to clinch victory.

Phil Armstrong, however, put paid to that idea when he came in with 27 points including twos at the ninth and 11th playing off a half handicap of 11. Peter Tolhurst and Karl Powell shared second place, each with 24 points.

Next Saturday will be the last 11 hole individual stableford before the season starts, kicking off with a scramble involving teams of four on Saturday, March 7.
