Burgh have now lost just one out of their last seven games, although they might have expected a tougher test with Hillhead sixes just two places behind them in the table.

The game got off to a good start for Burgh as they pushed high up the pitch. Wide runs down the wings with fast balls across the D, put Hillhead under pressure and they struggled in defence.

Dye used his trademark reverse stick to good effect putting in the first goal, quickly followed by Murphy. A third goal came from Carmichael, as he raced across the D to get a touch on a ball passed across from Dye, sliding the ball inside the post.

Helensburgh settled back a little, giving Hillhead the chance to regroup and put some strong attacks into the Helensburgh half.

Strong defending kept the score at 3-0 until half-time.

The second half saw Chambers and Carmichael form an ideal partnership. Chambers did some excellent work down the right wing running the ball into the right corner before firing it across to a waiting Carmichael who slotted the ball into the net. A near perfect move, they decided to repeat it again 10 minutes later giving Carmichael his hat-trick and make it 5-0.

A final goal from Dye, put the score beyond doubt at 6-0.

Hartopp was throwing himself about the pitch and won Helensburgh possession back on numerous occasions. One such time Hartopp found Black at the top of the D, but the captain’s shot was right at the keeper, as was the rebound.

Helensburgh eventually found an equaliser however, and it was an intuitive piece of hockey from J Cox. A hard ball in from G Caulfield was eloquently deflected into the net by the young striker to take the score to 1–1.

The second half started with a renewed pace as both teams fought for everything. Accies took the lead once again with a well-executed short corner.

Helensburgh tried to regroup but the home side pushed on.

The experienced Kennedy had a rare moment of madness as he lost the ball deep in his own half to allow Accies in for a third goal.

Helensburgh reacted to push for the comeback. Countless short corners were getting closer and closer to going in from Burgh, until the captain took charge and scored his second of the season.

B Cox, J Caulfield and Hartopp all had numerous shots but Helensburgh failure to put the ball in the net was clear.
